Sara El-Metwally
Sara
El-Metwally received the B.S. degree in Computer Science from
Mansoura University, Faculty of Computers and Information, Egypt, in 2007, and
the M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Mansoura University,
Faculty of Computers and Information, Egypt, in 2011 and 2016, respectively.
She completed part of her Ph.D. at University of Southern California,
Department of Molecular and Computational Biology, Los Angeles, California, USA
as a visiting scholar in Waterman lab according to the Joint Supervision Mission
Protocol between Mansoura University and University of Southern California.
In
2008, she joined the Computer Science Department, Mansoura University, as a
Teaching Assistant, and in 2011 as an Assistant Lecturer and she became an
Assistant Professor in 2017. Her Current Research Interests include Genomic
Data Analysis, Biological Data Mining, Genome Alignment and Assembly,
Metagenomic Data Analysis, RNA-seq Data Analysis and Application of Machine and
Deep learning in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Dr. Sara is a Google
Anita Borg scholar in 2012 and Arabic Women in Computing (ArabWIC) member since
2013. She is responsible for preparing National Academic Reference Standards
for Medical Informatics Department at Faculty of Computers and Information,
Mansoura University Egypt, and Organizing Scientific and Educational Technical
Clubs for Engineering and Bioinformatics.

Sara was the recipient of the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award (2019),
Scientific Publishing Grant award (2018), GHC Faculty Scholarship (2018), Joint
Supervision Mission Scholarship from the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education
(2013), Google EMEA Grace Hopper Travel Grant (2013), Google Anita Borg
Memorial Scholarship (2012), Top Outstanding Student Award at Mansoura
University, Ranked Second, Excellent grade with Honor (2007). .
